Gold sweet potatoes are by far the most widely grown sweet potato in Australia, making up the vast majority of what is sold here. Their rose gold skin and deep orange flesh carry a natural sweetness that has made them the household default, equally at home roasted for a Sunday dinner, mashed as a side, or cut into wedges and baked crisp.

Gold Sweet Potato is naturally gluten free and vegan friendly. Its vivid orange flesh signals beta carotene, the same antioxidant family that gives carrots their colour, alongside vitamin C for immune function and potassium to help support healthy blood pressure. It offers dietary fibre, particularly when eaten skin on, and vitamin B6 to support energy metabolism.

Roast in wedges until the edges caramelise, mash with butter and a little cumin, or bake whole in the skin. Gold sweet potato loves the same tray as a starchy roasting potato such as Maris Piper, so the sweet and the savoury arrive together.

Keep them in a cool, dark, airy spot out of the fridge, as chilling changes their texture and flavour. Stored well, they generally keep for one to two weeks.
